Kate Gosselin is detailing the events that led to her being hospitalised with a “life-altering” injury.
The Jon & Kate Plus 8 star said one of her dogs caused the injury in a live video from her hospital bed that was recorded and later uploaded to TikTok on Sept 30.
“Meika, my puppy, ran into me full-speed ahead and I ended up with a tibial plateau fracture and surgery with plates and pins in my leg,” Gosselin, 50, said in the video.
She later told viewers that her surgeon said, “This is one of those things that is a life-altering event.”
A tibial plateau fracture is a break in the upper surface of the tibia, or shinbone, that forms part of the knee joint. Physiopedia’s website indicates that the tibial plateau “is one of the most critical load-bearing areas in the human body.”
Gosselin detailed how she was using an “ice machine,” referring to a cold therapy system or cryotherapy, per OrthoBracing.com, to relieve the pain.
“I have an ice machine, and, let me tell you, I love it,” Gosselin said in the clip. “I’d say my insurance bought it but, let’s be honest, I probably bought it. They’re sending me home with the ice thing.”
Gosselin’s explanation came after she posted a TikTok of her arm with an IV attached to it and the caption, “Please pray for me tonight and tomorrow? I’d really appreciate it! Don’t worry, story time to follow when I’m able! Love you guys! I’ll be back as soon as I can!”
The former reality star then updated her followers in a separate TikTok, saying “I had surgery this morning and have five pain meds on board (top 3 most painful surgery).”
Gosselin reassured fans that she “did well” and thanked them for their support.
“CANNOT thank you enough for all your prayers!,” she wrote. “Love you guys!”
Gosselin rose to fame when she and her husband Jon’s lives were profiled in the series Jon & Kate Plus 8. The reality show followed the couple as they raised their sextuplets and twins.
After five seasons and the couple’s divorce in 2009, the show was rebranded to Kate Plus 8 to follow Gosselin as a divorced mother, with Jon appearing infrequently on the show. Kate Plus 8 concluded in 2017 after six seasons. – Advance Local Media LLC/Tribune News Service
