Uncle Roger will soon be turned into a cartoon character.

Malaysian comedian, restaurateur and YouTuber Nigel Ng, better known by his alter ego Uncle Roger, will be releasing an animated series called Fried on YouTube.

Announcing the news via Instagram on Oct 22, Ng, 34, told his followers that Fried will revolve around Uncle Roger before the curmudgeon became an Internet sensation.

“We’re busy developing the universe: creating the art style, writing the scripts, coming up with the characters, casting voice actors,” wrote Ng, who is based in Los Angeles.

According to the post, the show’s story follows Uncle Roger, his friends and enemies, and his love interest Helen.

“But instead of making YouTube videos, Uncle Roger runs a stall in a rundown local mall foodcourt,” Ng added.

Ng, who married Miami-based lawyer Sabrina Ahmed in July, shared that teasers of Fried will be released later in 2025 on YouTube.

Produced by Los Angeles animation studio Toonstar, Fried is an expanded universe for Uncle Roger. American business magazine Fast Company reported that the first season of Uncle Roger’s cartoon debut will consist of 12 eight-minute episodes.

In June, Ng told United States publication Animation Magazine that expanding Uncle Roger’s storytelling possibilities through animation was something he had dreamt about.

Uncle Roger became a viral personality in 2020 for critiquing a BBC Food video on cooking egg fried rice. He has since become a global comedy brand with over 10 million YouTube subscribers and sold-out international comedy tours. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
