Bad weather in Hilir Perak topples trees, obstructs roads

IPOH: Several areas in the Hilir Perak district were hit by strong winds and heavy rain, causing trees to topple and obstruct roads.

The storm began around 6.30pm, affecting several parts of Teluk Intan including Taman Melor, Sungai Kerawai, Kampung Padang Tembak, Kampung Esso, Lorong Pinang in Batak Rabit, and Kampung SC Belt.

In a statement issued by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force’s Hilir Perak District Operations Control Centre, it said the first distress call was received at 7.16pm, followed by a series of similar reports involving fallen trees in nearby locations.

“A total of 10 personnel from the force were deployed to clear debris and ensure the roads were safe for motorists.

“Two ambulances and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle were also mobilised to assist in the operations.

“As of 8.20pm, officers were still actively responding to reports from the public and emergency services hotline (MERS 999) to clear all affected areas,” the statement said.

No injuries or major property damage have been reported so far.
